Celebrating the Person, Not Just the Day.
It’s my husband’s birthday next week, which means it’s time to do some celebrating. I’m a huge fan of celebrations in general. I tend to decorate for most holidays and love a good excuse to throw some confetti in the air. What can I say, I get that from my Grammie.
But what I love most about birthdays is not just celebrating the day, but really celebrating the person. Spending time planning what they would want to do on their day and being able to cater it to them as an individual. Take the time to really celebrate them.
Which as a whole is a really important thing. I think too often in life we get tempted by the ‘suggestion box’ or the ‘feedback form’. Giving our input on how things should be different or improved, rather than soaking in the experience for exactly what it was.
And we do that with people too. Especially our partners. We can get in the habit of letting them know when they’re falling short or messing up and not thanking them or showing appreciation for all the things they do!
I know it’s not realistic to be in the mindset to celebrate the person our partner is everyday. And I know that feedback and discussion of growth edges is important.
But I also believe that it’s important to step back and celebrate each other much more often.
What can you put into practice to show your partner you celebrate them fully? Where do you need to slow down your feedback so as not to diminish exactly who your partner is?
Take some time to see if you can up the celebration this week!
You got this!
