The Summer of Us
Like most of you…this summer is flying by and the feelings I’m having about my kids starting high school keep bubbling up; no matter how many times I tell myself it’s all going to be fine.
So what am I doing to combat the feeling of time passing at lightning speed? Well, I’m trying to just be right there in it. Dragging them along to run errands, offering to drive them and their friends somewhere and staying up much later than I need to in order to talk them into a movie night. Anything and everything that just allows me to be in it.
And quite honestly, with two teenagers, it’s not always easy to put this into action, but it’s also not impossible.
My focus isn’t on creating big movie worthy experiences, but instead making the most of what is right in front of me. This summer of us is simply that. A summer where I’m leaning into all the time I can get with my kids, with my husband and even better…all of us together. Working to strengthen the bond that connects us without putting all the pressure in the world to make it look perfect and unforgettable. Because at the end of the day, the time I get with them is the unforgettable part.
What can you do to lean into the time you get together and appreciate it for the connection it creates, even if it’s not captured in pictures or captioned with ‘Best Day Ever’?
How can you dial down the ‘wow’ in order to simply create connection.
I’m cheering for you as you make your way through it.
