And we’re off!
My kids officially started High School this week and I don't quite know what to do with that statement. I’m excited, I’m overwhelmed and sort of in a daze.
Here are a list of things I’ve heard on repeat over the last few months leading up to high school:
It goes so fast.
Soak it in, because it will be over before you know it.
It will be done in a blink of an eye.
And I’m not entirely sure how helpful any of these words have actually been.
Yes, I know it’s going to fly by and yet I’d like to think that it’s not time that’s actually accelerating but my experience of it. Meaning I’m not in a time warp and I may actually have some control over how I experience this time and enjoy it for the phase that it is.
I know I’m not the only one that hears unhelpful advice when you’re in the thick of things. My approach to those repetitive words is to step back from them and find my own focus of control. Asking myself, what can I actually do with all of these circumstances outside of my control?
Sometimes it’s to let go.
Sometimes it’s to find the pieces I can actually manage.
Sometimes it’s to tune out the stuff that doesn’t feel helpful and just observe what’s right in front of me.
I don’t have all the answers…clearly…but my hope is that no matter what it is you’re working through right now; you’re able to step back and navigate in the way that works for you.
That you feel empowered to silence the external chatter and instead tune into yourself and that amazing wisdom you carry with you.
I know I’m bound to take many missteps over the next 4 years with my teens, but my hope is that I can do it in a way that feels most aligned for what is needed in the moment and not operate from a place of fearing I’ll miss it all.
Until next week,
